The Good Old Days are still here at Sun City Family Restaurant

This little gem in Sun City is winner of "Best Kept Secret" and "Best Senior Dining" awards three years in a row. Sun City Family Restaurant is owned by Maya and Bowen Shih. The hard-working couple have been serving delicious food at this location for almost 35 years and have created an environment in which they treat all of their loyal customers and employees like family.

It is very rare to find a homey family restaurant and we are so lucky to have one nearby in The Sun City Shopping Center. When you walk in, it evokes a feeling of the good old days, as does the classic menu filled with many of my favorite nostalgic diner dishes from my childhood.

Breakfast is served until they close at 2pm. Options include Home Style Country Breakfasts such as Pork Chops, Chicken Fried Steak, Corned Beef and other standard Breakfast meats, all served with Eggs any way you want them. They also have Waffles, French toast, Pancakes, Omelets, Breakfast Sandwiches and Burritos. I opted to try the Eggs Benedict which Maya mentioned was one of the most popular breakfast dishes and the eggs were runny and the hollandaise sauce cooked to perfection, which came with a side of yummy breakfast potatoes.

Lunch and Dinner Menu entrées are available at 11am until closing and there is a wide array of Burgers and Sandwiches with just about any meat and style you can imagine. They even have one of my all-time childhood favorites, a Monte Cristo Sandwich, Ham and Cheese grilled on French toast rather than deep-fried. However, I opted to try one of the burgers, the Bacon Burger Deluxe with Cheese was prepared nicely with a side of tasty fries.

The “dinner” menu provides a wonderful array of delicious treats such as Soups, Chili and Salads, New York Strip, Breaded Pork Tenderloin, Chicken Fried Steak, Meatloaf, Liver and Onions and even a Turkey Dinner with all of the trimmings. From the sea, they have Filet of Fish, Grilled Cod, Fried Shrimp and/or Scallops. I had heard so many great things about their Honey Fried Chicken that I had to try it. The coating did not disappoint, light and crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside.

They have a very fair priced Children’s Menu and Desserts for those with a sweet tooth which features Apple Pie ala mode. The restaurant industry has been hit so hard since the pandemic, so it is important to get over and support. They opened limited indoor seating on September 23rd and have wonderful outdoor seating which started on July 21st and they plan on keeping it because diners enjoy it so much. To-go orders are also available.
