LONG BEACH’S IMMORTAL QUEEN MARY BRUNCH
Since her maiden voyage in 1936, The Queen Mary has transported many iconic figures across the ocean blue, as well as serving as a troop transport in a World War II. Today, passengers that board the famous ocean liner can tour the historical and haunted areas and even stay overnight in the onboard hotel. Visitors can also indulge in restaurants, cafés and historical exhibits; Lady Diana has a wonderful tribute going on now.
If you want to treat a loved one to a memorable dining experience, I highly recommend the well-established Queen Mary Brunch. It has been over two years since my last visit and the brunch has been redesigned a year and a half ago. Executive Chef, Todd Henderson has refined the massive brunch and it is absolutely scrumptious.
We boarded the ship and took the elevator to the second floor. As we entered the Grand Salon, the ship's original First-Class Dining Room, we could feel her history and magnificence. Astounding is the design details from conception to construction over 75 years ago. I also marvel at the extensive preparation and orchestration that goes into the massive legendary Sunday Brunch.
We were guided to our seat by the Manager, Juan Gonzalez, whom I have met before; he has been there forever and is a true class act. By coincidence, his younger brother, Pascual was our table attendant, he has been on the ship for 27 years and you can tell both love and appreciate their jobs, as did every employee that I came in contact with.
I love the updated themed stations: Carving Station, Pacific Rim, Under the Tuscan Sun, South of the Border, Rise n Shine, Omelet Station, Market Salad Station, Ocean Bounty and Patisserie aka desserts. Had to begin with my favorites from the Seafood Station, Snow Crab Claws, King Crab, (so good), Oysters on the Half Shell, Seared Ahi, Shrimp Cocktail, a slice of juicy Prime Rib Roast (from the Carving Station), slathered with Horseradish and Au Jus. On my next two rounds, I sampled the Sushi, Eggs & Bacon and a Waffle and only scratched the surface.
With all of the free flowing champagne and the beautiful Harpist, Katrina Saroyan, there was a true ambiance of opulence. I especially enjoyed her renditions of Moon River and Titanic Theme Song. I never seem to have room for dessert, but tried Crepes Suzette, made to order and a creamy Mascarpone delight in a shot glass, both luscious. There was also Cheesecake, Cupcakes, Petite Éclairs, White Chocolate and Mocha Cake, California Fruit Tarts, Chocolate Raspberry Towers, Cookies and even a Sundae Bar. This truly is the perfect Mothers Day excursion.
